Natural Citrine Polished Tumblestone

A polished tumblestone of natural citrine, a transparent yellow variety of quartz ranging from the palest lemon through golden yellow and honey to almost brown, sometimes with rainbow or sparkle inclusions caught inside. The name comes from the French citron, meaning lemon, and it was being used as a gem in Greece as far back as 300 BC. Because of that colour it's occasionally mislabelled as gold topaz, Madeira, Spanish topaz or safranite. Worth knowing too: much of the citrine on the market is actually heat-treated amethyst, a darker burnt orange, whereas this is the natural stone.
