Handmade in the studio, this sleek larvikite bracelet is finished with a sterling silver skull charm and sterling silver accent beads. The design is deliberately simple, dark and understated, which is what makes it easy to wear every day rather than save for best.

Larvikite looks a little like labradorite, and for good reason: it's a black igneous rock made up entirely of feldspar, shot through with a blue and silver flash that catches as your wrist moves. That flash is what made it famous. It's thought to have formed over 298 million years ago, some 18 miles beneath the earth's surface, which is a rather humbling thing to wear on your arm.

Larvikite is regarded as a highly protective stone that wards off negative energy while promoting concentration and enhancing psychic ability, and it's said to create a strong connection with the energies of the earth and the spirits of nature. Traditionally it's also been associated with vitality and youthfulness, with supporting brain function and recovery after strokes, with cleansing and purifying body tissue, harmonising the metabolism and aiding muscular detoxification, and with calming the nerves and cooling and reducing blood pressure.

Each bracelet is made on elastic so it has a little stretch, sized to the average UK man's wrist at 7.5 inches (19cm). It arrives in a branded jewellery box, and as this design is made to order, the bracelet you receive may not be the exact one photographed, though it will look almost identical.
